You are what you eat. These days we are so busy juggling schedules that it is hard to find the time to eat healthy. So we've narrowed it down to 5 healthy tips so you can start living a healthier life with little effort.

1. Have a piece of fruit for breakfast instead of juice.

Not only does the juicing process destroy a number of fruits' beneficial compounds and antioxidants, it also removes nearly all of the natural fiber. In addition, studies have also shown that while eating fruit lowers the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, drinking the same fruit in a juice form actually increases it.​

2. Eat foods rich in color each day.

Bright colors in fruits and vegetables usually signify concentrated nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. The more colors you eat, the more diversity in nutrients you will receive.

3. Use a smaller plate.

The key foundation to any healthy diet is moderation. Large plates make you think you have relatively smaller amounts of food, so you will feel less satisfied and want more. By switching to a smaller plate, you literally trick your brain.  So make the switch.

4. Drink water or seltzer water instead of soda.

Soda and diet soda are not only bad for your waistline, but also your teeth.  Water helps flush our systems of waste products and toxins, yet many people go through life dehydrated - causing tiredness, low energy, and headaches. Stick with water or seltzer water and dress it up a bit by adding fresh lemon, lime, or other fruits.  

5. Use at least half whole-grain flour when baking.

By replacing half of your flour with whole-grain flour, you will get more fiber, more protein, and less of an empty calorie crash.
